The Curse of Thistles
Have you ever pondered thistles? We know that the ground did not produce thorns or thistles until sin entered the world. They were part of the curse.
“Cursed is the ground because of you;
Genesis 3:17b-18
In toil you will eat of it
All the days of your life.
Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;
And you will eat the plants of the field;”
Ask any farmer about thistles. He will confirm that these prickly plants are definitely part of a curse.
The Mercy of Thistles?
In studying herbs, I have discovered that many types of thistles are among the best plants for medicine. From milk thistle to blessed thistle, artichokes to dandelions, even roses – these plants are full of beneficial nutrients and have been shown to heal a multitude of diseases.
Diseases entered the world because of man’s sin. God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, provided thistles to help us heal.
Now every time I see a thistle, I am reminded of God’s mercy.
